the children think it is neat that our house has a name. their great grandfather named it when he bought the estate, he was done roving, and so he called the home Dunrovin.

i came across this page in an old album, and honestly it brought me to tears.

” to you, who follow in our footsteps, we bequeath Dunrovin to love and to cherish. May the love, joy and contentment which walked with us rest and abide with you in this house.”

the song posted in the note is by Perry Como. it is perfect for Dunrovin. i plan on printing and framing it.

there were a few old photos in the Album but there was something about this one…

the sunny day,

the laundry swaying in the breeze,

the ordinary moment captured.

we will put up another cloths line in this spot, and i hope to capture many wonderful memories of our own family in this home.

“When I first began this project, I thought it would be fun to document the every day messes my children make. As the weeks have passed, this project has really become so much more than that.

It’s not really about messes at all, but about the stories they tell. It’s about traces of childhood I see throughout my home on a daily basis. It’s about the love we share together. It’s about living and being…creating, making, learning and trying. This project leaves me a beautiful story each month of the reminders that Kids are here now…and the time, well, its all too fleeting, isn’t it? We all need to embrace these moments and just live them too; because they really are the best moments of life.” -Ginger Unzueta

the first image was my loot from Mother’s Day. the wordle just makes my heart melt.

the last one my son was writing me love notes all week. i found those on my fridge one morning. <3

the image of the deck chairs–my kids were REALLY  really lucky that i was doing this project… cause i would have formerly lost my cool over that one. lol

i was not entirely happy that tails ‘fell’ into the tub but he did need a bath so it worked out. lol

my oldest dd is the artist here. she is obviously a little obsessed with sonic.

our big news which most of you probably already know by now is that we finally sold our house! long time in the making. we started reno’s on Dunrovin about 6 years ago when Cain was a newborn. we are finishing up the last of the work there and will be moving in on July 3rd!! i still can’t believe it!! so life has been crazy busy lately.

so i thought i would share a little bit behind my cover shot for may’s kids were here.

in the midst of bedtime routine, i seen this airplane in a glass of water on my son’s dresser. it immediately caught my attention. these are the kinds of things i love to document. the quirky things kids do. lol

i could take shots of messes all. day. long. seriously. there is never a shortage in supply here. what i had to do was stay true to myself. how i see things. how i view their world. for kids were here i never ever set up shots. i will at times however remove items that are distracting and not apart of what i want told in the final image. mostly however it is all in the perspective.

i took the shot as it was. undisturbed. so much was going on that you didn’t get clear focus on what i wanted. this is where i decided that i had to remove a few items without touching the glass. i didn’t want the bubbles in the glass to be disturbed.

KWH-sooc1

so i removed the clutter and angled the camera so that the stereo in his dresser was not in the frame. this was ok to me, but still distracting from what i wanted the focus on.

KWH-sooc2

so i changed my camera viewpoint. shot from above. in order to get this angle to work i did have to move the glass, ever so carefully. lol. i love how the old dresser wood showed up like a nice texture background.

KWH-covershot-before

and the final kids were here cover image edited. (:

KWH-covershot

here is what i mean when i say it is all in the perspective.

my son is always playing lego’s on my workout matt. this one day he didn’t clean up behind himself and thankfully for this project instead of getting annoyed, i grab my camera. lol (; i usually take a few shots with different perspectives. i liked this shot too, it tells the story, but it wasn’t my pick.

kwh-legosmatt-sg

by simply changing my perspective i was able to get a clean shot that focused on the legos on the matt. i loved how the light falling make the lego sort of pop off the matt. this is where i have to be true to my vision. perhaps it is part that and some ocd. i need order even in chaos. lol

“These still life images serve as a daily reminder that my days are awash in chaos, whimsy, laughter and laundry (sometimes all at once). They capture toys and spills and puddles and piles. Sentimental, solitary moments of childhood ephemera. A gentle prodding to live in the now and stop looking toward the “then.” And though sometimes I pray for clean and quiet and still, I know all too well it will come. And I will yearn for tiny shrieks of laughter in my bedroom. For toys and loveys strewn about. For signs of a daily life well lived. For traces of my babies who once were. For reminders that Kids Were Here–and they were life and light and love.” – Stephanie Beaty

hola!! my spanish is not great, i think D did better than i did speaking spanish. lol i could speak more french, but everytime we travel i think i should learn a second language. lol i want too. i do.

the 17th landed on our last day in the Dominican, Punta Cana, so i documented our last day there. i took a ton more pics but will have to do another blog post for those. (: hehe.

it was sort of a last minute vacation. so not planned and had it not been for our amazing babysitters (Alana and Mike- thank you so much!!!!) we would not have been able to go! the kids did not miss us at all and had a great time with the sitters!

our routine: eat, sleep, drink, sun repeat. it was pure bliss!!

Geraldo made me my last omelette. i think he must have put 4 eggs in it. it was good! (: i ate SO much that week. oh my. lol

the coffee wasn’t great there but the cappuccinos were yummy!!!

it was the only time it rained while we were there, and just a squall.

got to squish my toes in the sand one last time and watch the Fotographo’s canvas the beach. (maybe i should do that this summer. lol (;

these sweet boys were some excited to get some treats, they were a bit camera shy tho. we brought with us a bunch of smarties, crayons and colouring books to give away.

we flew home on the red-eye. oh my i was up for a total of 36 hrs before i got sleep. it was so nice to get away, but good to be back home again!

i do miss the sun tho. lol (;

i hope to blog more from our vacation shortly!! (:

“One thing we’ve learned this summer is that a house is not an end in itself, any more than “home” is just one geographic location where things feel safe and familiar. Home can be anyplace in which we create our own sense of rest and peace as we tend to the spaces in which we eat and sleep and play. It is a place that we create and re-create in every moment, at every stage of our lives, a place where the plain and common becomes cherished and the ordinary becomes sacred.” ― Katrina Kenison

seems like we’ve been waiting forever to move into this old heritage home. six years ago we started renovations. five grueling years of trying to sell our current home. i’ve had to learn to be content as things are, to know that my home is not the walls of the building that we live in. to learn to accept life’s challenges without wanting or wishing for something else. to know my sense of peace and contentment can be found within regardless of where we live.

i am very excited about joining a wonderful group of ladies who rock their lensbaby and are as obsessed with it as i am. (; please follow the blog circle by checking out the lovely and talented Heather Meyer.
